AISA PARENTS

All parents and guardians of students enrolled at AISA are members of AISA Parents.

The purposes of AISA Parents are to:

i) provide support to parents and the school.

ii) support school goals through volunteer service, fund-raising activities, and enhanced educational opportunities for students.

iii) provide a channel of communication between parents and the school.

Each grade has a grade representative, who participates in the grade representative committee which meets regularly, preferably every 2 weeks, to (a) discuss important issues and if appropriate inform the school administration and the board of the opinions of the parents; and (b) plan and organize activities for the school and its students.

EVENTS

AISA Parents are starting their 3rd year and will organize the following events as well as supporting other events at the school:

Halloween Party (31 October). Elementary Classes are invited to the Halloween Party to be held after school in the Gym with a movie or games or other entertainment as well as refreshments. Students may dress up during the school day and during the party. Tickets for the party will be sold at school prior to the party.

Dress up as your Favorite Book Character (TBA). Is your favorite book “Harry Potter”, “Fancy Nancy”, “Tintin”, “The Cat in the Hat” or something completely different? Pretend to be your favorite character for a day and use your imagination to create a costume to wear in school. Bring to school a copy of the book from which your character comes from and enter the parade around the school. (The teachers dress up too).

The Gently Used Book Fair (May). Gently used books in all genres for all age groups, including adults, are collected in special boxes throughout the school. The books are then sorted according to age group and sold for Dhs 5 or 10 per book. The Book Fair is open to the entire AISA community, students, parents and teachers. The younger classes normally make a trip to the fair with their teacher on a rotation basis agreed with the other teachers. AISA Parents have in the previous years raised about Dhs. 5,000 which are used towards AISA Parents activities in school.

NEWCOMERS COFFEE AND AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

AISA Parents support parents throughout the year. New parents to AISA will be invited to the Newcomers Coffee in September soon after the new school year starts.

For parents coming later on in the school year, an invitation to be contacted by an Ambassador from the Ambassador Program will be issued. The Program aims at helping out new parents to the school as well as to Abu Dhabi. If possible, an Ambassador from the same country or speaking your native language will be appointed to help you with any questions or queries you may have.

BOOK GROUP

AISA Parents together with the school library organizes a monthly book group for parents. The book group will meet on the following Thursdays 13/9, 11/10, 8/11 and 6/12 at 1.15pm in the library. Bring a book you have read (it does not have to be recently) and present it to the other participants. Amazing discussions will develop, and you will get new inspirations for your reading.

PARENTS AS A PRIMARY SOURCE AND PAST EVENTS

At AISA it is encouraged that students learn from primary sources as well as secondary sources. The Parents as Primary Resources initiative invites parents into the classrooms to speak on their areas of expertise, their experiences to give the students a deeper understanding and a different perspective on their learning. Students are able to listen to presentations, ask questions or visit work places

AISA Parents have previously organized an event on road safety for all classes, as well as movie evenings, coffee mornings and provide assistance with giving tours of the school to new parents.
