Middle School Core Curriculum

AISA Middle School is grades 6, 7 snd 8. Boys and girls receive instruction in separate classes

Core courses include English, Humanities, Math and Science. We follow the Common Core States Standards (CCSS) from the United States. Students will receive daily instruction in all core subjects.

Students will read a variety of literature for English and Humanities. The goal is for our learners to read and analyze a wide variety of complex texts. Similarly, our students will learn how to express their thoughts using different forms of writing.

Literacy will be emphasized across all core subjects, including Math and Science. Listening and speaking will be emphasized through group discussions and presentations. Students will receive opportunities to practice these skills during all core subjects.

Math and Science will involve inquiry-based learning. As we move to CCSS a greater emphasis will be placed on explaining how and why a student arrives at an answer or conclusion. Our math and science program will challenge students and build their metacognition skills (thinking about thinking).

All core subjects will focus on big ideas, essential skills and understandings. Students will work on skills such as critical thinking, research, problem-solving and cooperative learning.

Teachers integrate technology into daily lessons and activities. We have Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classrooms in Middle School. Students are required to bring a laptop or tablet to class. Each classroom is also equipped with Smart Board technology.
